Theatre Arts Classes

Besides participating in the Drama Club, it is highly recommended that you take a Theatre class. If you don’t have room in your schedule, you are always welcome to audition or tech for the fall and spring productions.

Theatre Arts 1 Grades 9-12 Year

Meets UC and CSU” f” requirement

Students are given the opportunity to discover and develop their talents and to gain confidence performing in front of others by participating in a variety of activities such as pantomime, improvisations, acting scenes, monologues, voice and diction exercises, storytelling, playwriting, and theatre games. Students are introduced to theatre terminology, theatre history, play production, script analysis, characterizations, and dramatic literature. This class is a must for students interested in learning basic acting skills.

Theatre Arts 2 Grades 9-12 Year

Meets UC and CSU” f” requirement

Prerequisite: Completion of Theater Arts 1 with a grade of C or better.

Students with a commitment to excellence in theatre will continue more advanced study of acting techniques, advanced improvisation and history of theatre. Students will create a short production for a final exam performance that reflects the skills and techniques learned.

Theatre Arts 3 Grades 10-12 Year

Prerequisite: Theatre 1, Theatre 2, and permission of instructor (audition requirement).

To qualify for the advanced theatre program a student must have basic acting and improvisational skills and a willingness to make a commitment to excellence in theatre. Class work includes but is not limited to, the study of method acting, auditioning techniques, performing comedy, stage dialects and styles of acting. Students create a production for a final exam performance that reflects the skills and techniques learned during the year. Students also participate in an annual trip and see live theatre each semester. Techniques of Stanislavski are emphasized.

Theatre Arts 4 Grades 11-12 Year

Meets UC and CSU “f”  requirement

Prerequisite: Completion of Theatre Arts 1 and 2 with a C or better and audition.

Students learn all aspects of producing a play, including directing, acting, scene design, construction, costume, sound, and lighting design. Makeup, properties acquisition, construction, publicity, and design are also surveyed. Students will perform and/or assist with two productions and compete in local theatre competitions. Class may be repeated once for credit.

Play Production Grades 11-12 Year

Meets UC and CSU” f” requirement

Prerequisite: Completion of Theatre Arts 1 and 2 with a grade or C or better and an audition.

Students learn all aspects of producing a play including scene design and construction, costume, sound and lighting design, make-up, properties acquisition and construction, and publicity. Students will perform and/or assist with the winter production and compete in local Theatre competitions. Class may be repeated once for credit.
